Man of Steel: Making Sense of All That Christ and Death Stuff:

Sometimes, there’s just too damn much to say about a movie than can fit into any one review. (Even Stephanie Zacharek’s exhaustive, excellent one.) So, here’s more: Stephanie Zacharek, our lead film critic, and film edi

Man of Steel is complete and utter garbage. It’s not worth pirating. This article from the Phoenix New Times really does an admirable job in dissecting this shameful waste of money.

Please also note that this is something of a landmark movie in another regard— it’s the first movie I’ve ever walked out on. I know, that’s Roger Ebert’s cardinal sin, but it is such a ham-fisted assault on the senses— a numbing, punishing exercise in unsympathetic characters, overused shaky-cam, a vomitous color palette, product tie-ins and a spastic plot that one desperately yearns for the relatively serene and placid territory of the theater arcade packed with screaming children.

I cannot tell if the headache I’m currently enjoying is a result of the 3D glasses, the GIGANTIC WALL OF SOUND THAT ZACH SNYDER USES TO CREATE TENSION INSTEAD OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT or the termite-laden acting. No, wait, I know what it’s from— it’s from the blithering mass of yokels behind me who are so overstimulated by mainlining Mountain Dew that they lose all control of their muscles when they yuk it up during the movie’s few minutes where the studio execs told Snyder to put something amusing.

…and so on, ad nauseum.

There’s one redeeming aspect about big-budget blockbusters like this: their nature demands that they appeal to the lowest common denominator and include slices of every aspect of contemporary society to create situations and characters with which the audience is supposed to identify. Whether it does or not— and Man Of Steel most certainly doe not— is another matter. From a sociological standpoint, it’s interesting to look back at the years of summer blockbusters and have a look at the contemporary zeitgeist. So here, we can see a bulk of marketing tie-ins with the national guard, Nikon and overwrought digital effects. That’s it, though— outside of the scenes on Krypton, this movie is a complete and utter waste of effort.

Forget about this movie. Truly, I mean this: book time with a hypnotherapist or engage in some productive aversion therapy to flush every single possible mention of this movie from your mind. This movie does not exist. You don’t want to waste 30 dollars on this. You don’t want to waste however long it will take to torrent this.

And Superman does not kill.

Fuck this movie, fuck snyder and fuck nolan.
